Smith & Wesson Governor

The 2011 release of the Smith & Wesson Governor marks an important shift in the .410 handgun market. The Governor is the first double-action revolver by a major manufacturer to challenge the supremacy of the Taurus Judge. The Governor takes some cues from the S&W Night guard series with its Scandium frame and matte-black finish. This revolver arrives from the factory with a front Tritium Night Sight and a choice of a bantam rubber grip or a Crimson Trace laser grip. The two primary features that set the Governor apart from the Judge is the use of a 6-shot cylinder, and the option to fire .45 ACP cartridges using 2-round or 6-round Moon Clips.

.410 Buckshot Loads

Buckshot loads are intended for self defense. In keeping with this ammunition’s purpose, Birchwood Casey 12” x 18” Silhouette Targets were used for these tests in place of the smaller snake targets.

.410 Birdshot Loads

Birdshot loads are ideal for dispatching snakes and vermin at close range. To simulate pest control situations, 8" Birchwood Casey Shoot-N-C Targets attached to 8 ½" x 11" sheets of paper were set at 6-foot and 10-foot intervals. Pellet counts for each load included the entire sheet of paper, not just the bulls-eye. The one exception is the Federal .410 Handgun round loaded with #4 Birdshot. Since  this round is marketed for self defense, it was tested in a defensive role using 12” x 18” Silhouette Targets.
